about

Te q'uinal is based on a traditional and indigenous chant form the maya tzeltal culture in Chiapas. The song gives thanks to the earth, to the seeds that we plant, the elements which nurture them and to life itself.

lyrics

Te q´uinal yu´un te c´altic,
te q´uinal yu´un te c´altic
te ha´al soc te c´ahc´al
te ha´al soc te c´ahc´al
te te´ etic soc witsetic
te te´ etic soc witsetic
ha´ jmahtan awu´un cajwal
ha´ jmahtan awu´un cajwal

Te jwe´el cuch´el tey ta jnah
Te jwe´el cuch´el tey ta jnah
Te jc´u´ jpac´ anich´anon
Te jc´u´ jpac´ anich´anon
Jujun c´ahc´ al ay cu´un
Jujun c´ahc´ al ay cu´un
Yu´ un ya cacanantayon
Yu´ un ya cacanantayon

Gracias te doy, por la semilla
Creación divina
Y a la verde tierra, sol y lluvia
Gracias padre/madre por darme la vida

Translation into spanish:
La Tierra para sembrar
El sol y la lluvia que la alimenta
Como árboles grande crece nuestro maíz
Lugar hermoso, regalo de dios
que crezcan nuestras semillas

El alimento en el hogar.
La vestimenta, somos hijos de dios
Trabajando nos regala nuestro señor,
El siempre está con nosotros
